New Museum of Transport - Diesel Hall

The choice of location of the New Transport Museum is symbolic in itself. In Budapest, in the former Northern Vehicle Repair Area, past, present and future appear at the same time. The architectural concept sees the site as the cradle of vehicle repair in Hungary, while the buildings here are treated as large exhibition spaces, which are already worthy of display. In fact, the vehicles exhibited here in the future will return home to rest, since most of them have been repaired here in the North, the country's former largest railway vehicle repair shop.

Using MÁV's former diesel locomotive repair hall, the new museum complex will be built with its redevelopment and expansion. Going beyond the general museums, which are only about exhibition and presentation, the New Transport Museum encourages visitors to participate and interact.

The New Transport Museum is also a vision of the 21st century museum, where, unlike traditional exhibition spaces, without strictly designated routes, people are free to tour the area and museum buildings. With the help of the project, not only one of Europe's oldest transport museums, - founded in 1899 -, find a permanent home in this area, but also a complex development for the whole part of the city, with the simultaneous development of a new transport hub and public space, the revitalisation of the previously neglected area to create a new city centre. The investment is one of the largest brownfield developments in Europe.

New Museum of Transport -
Railway Station

New railway station for the New Museum of Transport, located on the line 80a Budapest-Hatvan. It serves the north-eastern zone of the Budapest city area, whereas it provides a link towards Miskolc.

The Railway Station and its public connections are an integral part of the building complex of MÁV's Northern Train Repair Hall, and its industrial heritage is enriched with contemporary architectural and landscaping tools.

The new station consists of 3 railway platforms, a public underpass and the forecourts connecting to the station.

Before arriving to the final stop of the Keleti Railway Station in the city center, this stop provides a transfer to Line 1 of the tram running on Hungária körút and to other transportation means on Kőbányai út, thus handling significant suburban transfer traffic. The new stops along the urban axes fit into the comprehensive transport development concept of the unified Budapest Agglomeration Railway Strategy.
